Tour Scotland Video Croatian Music And Folk Dancing Perth Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of traditional music, song and folk dancing by Varazdin Folk Dance Ensemble from Croatia at the International Folk Dance Festival on visit to King Edward Street in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. They dance as couples but also as soloists, to show off their skills and try to impress the other sex. Singing is an important part of the Croat traditions, which is why dancing and singing often go hand in hand. They occasionally sing about daily life, but mainly about love, accompanied by tamburizza and violin. They perform in authentic, hand made costumes. Varaždīn is a city in Northern Croatia, north of Zagreb.

Tour Scotland Video Summer Drive To Glenturret Whisky Distillery Crieff Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of a Summer drive West on the A85 road through Crieff to The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Whisky distillery in Perthshire, Scotland. The distillery was officially established in 1775, but the distillery had previously been under the control of illicit distillers, who sought to avoid paying taxes to England, since 1717. This early history has led to claims that Glenturret is the oldest distillery in Scotland. The distillery was originally known as “ Hosh ” and was originally owned by the Drummond family. It was taken over by John McCallum in 1845 till 1875 when Thomas Stewart took it over and renamed it Glenturret in its centenary year. The First World War saw the closure of the distillery, but following the war it reopened again under the Mitchell Brothers until 1921 when the great depression and prohibition in America saw it closed again. The buildings during this period were kept as storage by the Murrays of Ochtertyre. It did not reopen again to production till 1957 when it was revitalised by James Fairlie. Fairlie was a whisky enthusiast and his intention was to create a malt whisky created in traditional fashion and to preserve the craft of distilling. The distillery was bought by Cointreau in 1981 and from there passed to Highland Distillers in 1990.

Tour Scotland Video Summer Drive To St Bean's Church Fowlis Wester Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of a Summer drive West on the A85 road from Methven to St Bean's Church on ancestry visit to Fowlis Wester, Perthshire, Scotland. The Earls of Strathearn once held court at Fowlis Wester and it was Gilbert, the third Earl, who gifted the building to the parish at the beginning of the 13th century. The church was dedicated to St Bean, the great grandson of the King of Leinster, Ireland. He had come to the area to preach in the 8th century. One of seven brothers, who were all ardent Roman Catholic ecclesiastics and founders of churches, St Bean came to Scotland to preach the Gospel among the Picts in the area, who had been converted to Christianity almost two centuries earlier. The standing stones in the area convinced him that this was the best place to begin driving out the dark pagan practices associated with such stones. It is believed there has been a church at the site since those times but what kind of building existed prior to Gilbert’s gift is not known. However, the Pictish Cross Symbol Stone , discovered embedded in a wall during renovations in 1927, is thought to date back to St Bean’s time. Notable features of the church are the aumbry, recess for church vessels, the eighth century Pictish cross already mentioned, which shows Jonah and the whale, and the lepers’ squint which is a special window from where the afflicted could watch Mass without coming into contact with the rest of the congregation. The church also contains a piece of McBean tartan which US astronaut Alan Bean took to the moon and back in 1969. A replica Pictish Cross stands in the village square.

Old Photograph Caigenhouses Isle Of Jura Scotland
Old photograph of Caigenhouses, Isle of Jura, Scotland. The row of old cottages to the right of the double storey houses are known as Caigenhouses. It used to be known as Mariner's Row for the ten or more Jura master mariners who are known to have lived there. Most of Jura is inaccessible by car. The only metalled road on the island runs 25 miles round the south coast from Feolin and ends at Lealt, about two thirds of the way up the east coast. The road is single track with passing places all the way and the surface is reasonable as far as Craighouse.
