From its early inception as a port Montrose had traded in skins, hides and cured salmon but in the 17th century began to export wheat and barley in regular trading transactions with the Hanseatic League. The town imported flax and timber from the Baltic; salt, fruit and wine from France and Portugal. The wealth this brought to the town is demonstrated in the surviving houses built by landowning and merchant families as well as local street names of " America Street ", " California Street ", " Baltic Street " and " India Street " evidencing its trading heritage.

Montrose is a coastal resort town and former royal burgh in Angus, Scotland. It is situated 38 miles north of Dundee between the mouths of the North and South Esk rivers. It is the northernmost coastal town in Angus and developed at a natural harbour that traded in skins, hides and cured salmon in medieval times.

Highland dance or Highland dancing is a style of competitive solo dancing developed in the Scottish Highlands in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the context of competitions at public events such as the Highland games. Highland dancing is often performed to the accompaniment of Highland bagpipe music. It is now seen at nearly every modern-day Highland games event.

Tour Scotland Video Bagpipes And Drums Ceres Fife

Tour Scotland travel video of a Pipe Band playing bagpipes and drums music on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Ceres, Fife, Scotland. Ceres is one of the most historic and picturesque villages in Scotland and one of the few Scottish villages to have a village green, known as the Bow Butts since its use as an archery practice ground in medieval times. Many men from Ceres fought in the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.

Tour Scotland Video Hughes War Grave Sleepyhillock Cemetery Montrose

Tour Scotland travel video of Pilot, Walter Ward Hughes gravestone in Sleepyhillock Cemetery on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to Montrose, Scotland. Walter served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and died aged 22, on the 17th of December 1941. He was the son of Walter Ernest and Lillie Gertrude Ward Hughes, of Lockwood, Saskatchewan, Canada.
