Old Photograph Shepherds And Sheep Carsphairn Scotland
Old photograph of Shepherds and Sheep in Carsphairn in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The village is located about halfway between Dalmellington and St. John's Town of Dalry, on the A713 road. Carsphairn annual sheep show is held in the village. Industry is mainly rural, but, historically, a significant mining industry existed, particularly of lead, following the discovery of significant quantities in 1837. By the mid 1850s the mine was producing 1,000 tons annually. Mining continued in the area, with peak production between 1906 and 1914. Following the end of the First World War, the industry collapsed and by 1928 all lead mining operations had ceased.

Old Photograph Carnegie Library Kinross Scotland
Old photograph of the Carnegie Library and Town Hall in Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland. The original Tradesman's Library here dated from 1825. The memorial stone for the new library was laid by Sir Basil Montgomery in 1905 after Kinross Burgh Council received a gift from Dr Andrew Carnegie. The building adjoins the Clock Tower, Town Hall and old Post Office. The architect was Peter Henderson based at 122 George Street, in Edinburgh, who was better known for his brewery and bar designs. More than 600 public libraries were built in the UK and Ireland with money donated by Scottish philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Both buildings are now closed and up for sale. The library was closed in 2001 after dry rot was discovered in the structure of the building. The Kinross Museum that occupied part of the library was closed in 1996 when Perth and Kinross Council withdrew funding.

Tour Scotland Video Heavy Rain Annaty Burn Perth Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of heavy rain at Annaty Burn located North of Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. According to local legend, in 1296 when it was known that King Edward I was going to remove the Stone of Destiny to England, monks from Scone Abbey are reputed to have removed the stone and hidden it in a safe place, and replaced it with a stone that was taken from the Annaty Burn. This may explain why some believe that the Stone of Destiny which rests in Edinburgh Castle is formed from exactly the kind of stone that is found. Burn is a Scots word for small river or stream.
