Tour Scotland photograph of Gelder Shiel Lodge near Balmoral Castle, Scotland. The Gelder Shiel is one of the Royal bothies, lying on the Balmoral Estate on the northern flanks of Lochnagar. Bothies are small cottages or huts that are left open for anyone walking in the hills to make use of for overnight shelter.

Tour Scotland photograph of the sign for Cairngorms National Park in Glenshee, Perthshire in the Highlands of Scotland. Cairngorms National Park was officially established as a park in 2003. At 1,467 square miles, it is Britain’s largest National Park and located within the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The park has a large upland plateau, and is categorised as a “ protected landscape ” which allows for limited development within its borders. The park is home to reindeer, ospreys, eagles, wildcats, red squirrels, and boasts an extensive array of activities that range from hiking, skiing, and traditional villages. The Cairngorms National Park is truly a thrilling land of adventure and discovery, and it also boasts natural wonders containing, mountains and gorges, forests and rivers, and within the park you will wonder in the delight of ancient highland communities and whisky distilleries.

The Cairngorms are a mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland closely associated with the mountain of the same name, Cairn Gorm. The Cairngorms feature the highest, coldest and snowiest plateaux in the British Isles and are home to five of the six highest mountains in Scotland including; Ben Macdhui, Braeriach, Cairn Toul, Sgor an Lochain Uaine, Cairn Gorm. These mountains are all Munros, and there are a further 13 mountains with this categorisation across the area, of which another five are among the twenty highest peaks in the country.

Tour Scotland wee travel video of photographs of a small group walking tour of the region surrounding Ullapool on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Wester Ross, Highlands of Scotland. The area surrounding Ullapool is dominated by rugged mountains, and especially by Bheinn Ghobblach to the west, An Teallach to the south west, Beinn Dearg to the south east close to the head of Loch Broom, and Ben Mhòr na Còigich to the north. An Teallach is a massive mountain which dominates the area and consists of Torridonian sandstone, which is layered nearly horizontally. It is an easy climb but is several miles from the nearest road, so a long trek is needed before the ascent begins.

Tour Scotland video of Kildalton Celtic Cross on ancestry visit to the Island Of Islay, Scotland. It was carved probably in the second half of the 8th century AD, and is closely related to crosses of similar date on Iona. It is often considered the finest surviving Celtic cross in Scotland, and is certainly one of the most perfect monuments of its date to survive on western Europe.
