It is located six miles north west of Duns, in the Lammermuir Hills. The Dye Water runs through the village, flowing east towards its confluence with the Whiteadder Water nearby. The opera Lucia di Lammermoor, written by Gaetano Donizetti and based on Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor, was set in Longformacus. The Southern Upland Way, a Long Distance Route which crosses southern Scotland, passes through the village, and the Sir Walter Scott Way from Moffat to Cockburnspath passes through Longformacus. Old Photograph Mill Oxton Scotland

Old photograph of the Mill in Oxton, Borders, Scotland. This Scottish village is located 25 miles south east of the centre of Edinburgh. The village of Oxton lies in the parish of Channelkirk. This name for the parish appears to have come into general use in the district around the beginning of the eighteenth century but its ancient name was Childer-kirk and later Gingle-kirk. Saint Cuthbert, who became Bishop of Lindisfarne, was born here in AD635.

The older part of this Scottish castle is said to be haunted by a Grey Lady who starved to death in the dungeons of the castle because she had the plague. A man has been reportedly seen sitting in the library and a White Deer is reputedly seen in the grounds of the castle whenever a chief of the Hamiltons is close to death. Brodick has the Isle of Arran's main ferry terminus which connects Brodick to Ardrossan on the mainland. The ferries are operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. MV Caledonian Isles plies this route year-round, with MV Isle of Arran providing additional sailings during the summer. Brodick is a popular holiday destination and a base for hill walking. A Scottish a town which is located on the north bank of the the River Tweed in Berwickshire, while Northumberland in England lies to the south bank, with Cornhill-on-Tweed the nearest village. A former burgh, Coldstream is the home of the Coldstream Guards, a regiment in the British Army, and is the location where Edward I of England invaded Scotland in 1296. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Coldstream was a popular centre for runaway marriages, much like Gretna Green.
