Old Photograph The Palace Cinema Rosyth Fife Scotland
Old photograph of the Palace Cinema in Rosyth, Fife, Scotland. The Palace Cinema was opened on 26th December 1921 with 900 seats. It was part of the Scottish Cinemas Variety Theatres chain, who were part of the Associated British Cinemas chain. The proscenium was 29 feet wide. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric sound system and was taken over by an independent operator. It later continued as a cinema in the A.B. King chain until it closed in the late 1960’s. It became a bingo club until the mid 1970’s. In recent years has become CJ’s Premier Pool hall and the American Lounge Bar. The area is best known for its large dockyard, formerly the Royal Naval Dockyard Rosyth, construction of which began in 1909. The town was planned as a garden city with accommodation for the construction workers and dockyard workers.

Tour Scotland Video Doune Castle
Tour Scotland video of Doune Castle in the Stirling district of central Scotland. Doune is a popular filming location and has featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander. Doune Castle was originally built in the thirteenth century, then probably damaged in the Scottish Wars of Independence, before being rebuilt in its present form in the late 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, the son of King Robert II of Scotland, and Regent of Scotland from 1388 until his death. Duke Robert's stronghold has survived relatively unchanged and complete, and the whole castle was traditionally thought of as the result of a single period of construction at this time. The castle passed to the crown in 1425, when Albany's son was executed, and was used as a royal hunting lodge and dower house. In the later 16th century, Doune became the property of the Earls of Moray. The castle saw military action during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and Glencairn's rising in the mid 17th century, and during the Jacobite Risings of the late 17th century and 18th century. By 1800 the castle was ruined, but restoration works were carried out in the 1880s, prior to its passing into state care in the 20th century.
