Tour Scotland Video Diesel Passenger Train Crossing Tay Railway Bridge



Tour Scotland video of a diesel passenger train crossing the Tay Railway Bridge over the Firth of Tay from and to Dundee to Wormit in Fife, Scotland. The present structure is the second one this site. From about 1854, there had been plans for a Tay crossing, to replace an early train ferry. The first bridge, opened in 1878, was a single track lattice design, notable for lightness and low cost. Its sudden collapse in a high wind on 28 December 1879 was one of the great engineering disasters of history. Seventy five passengers and crew died,The second bridge is a double track construction of iron and steel, opened in 1887 and still in service.

Tour Scotland Video Snowdrops Grounds Scone Palace Perth Perthshire



Tour Scotland video of snowdrops during the Scottish Snowdrop Festival on visit to the grounds of Scone Palace, Perthshire, Scotland. Galanthus is a small genus of about 20 species of bulbous herbaceous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Most flower in winter, before the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. The Scottish Snowdrop Festival starts each year from February 1st. From the Latin name meaning ' milk flower ', these tiny green and white flowers are amongst the first blossoms to emerge in the new year. In the mid 19th century soldiers in the Crimean War brought them back from the battlefields to plant in their gardens. Today they thrive throughout Scotland, in gardens, damp woods and on river banks. At locations throughout Scotland, you’ll find snowdrop after snowdrop, bringing brightness and magic to your day.

Tour Scotland Video March Small Group Tour Cemetery Newburn Fife



Tour Scotland wee travel video of photography from a March small group tour on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the cemetery in Newburn, East of Upper Largo, East Neuk of Fife. The tiny and long abandoned church acts as a magnet to burials of note including, Sir Raymond Patrick Hadow, born 1879, died 1962. James Lorimer, born 4 November 1818 in Aberdalgie in Perthshire., died 13 February 1890, who was a Scottish advocate and professor of public law. He was an authority on international law. Sir Robert Stodart Lorimer, born 4 November 1864, died 13 September 1929, who was a prolific Scottish architect and furniture designer noted for his sensitive restorations of historic houses and castles, for new work in Scots Baronial and Gothic Revival styles, and for promotion of the Arts and Crafts movement. John Henry Lorimer, born 12 August 1856, died 4 November 1936, who was a Scottish painter who worked on portraits and genre scenes of everyday life. Leonara Jeffrey Rintoul ornithologist, a rare female Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

Tour Scotland Video March Small Group Tour Cemetery Kinnoull Perth Perthshire



Tour Scotland wee travel video of photography from a March small group tour on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the cemetery in Kinnoull, Perth, Perthshire. The graveyard located by the River Tay is well worth a visit, consisting as it does of many 17th and 18th century gravestones, including that of the ferrymen who worked the River Tay crossing between 1621 and 1772. The graveyard is also the resting place of Euphemia Effie Chalmers Gray, born 1828, died 1897. the wife of the critic John Ruskin who later left her husband to marry his protege, the Pre Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais. There are many fine carvings on tombstones in Kinnoull Churchyard. One was erected by Alexander Duff, Boatman, to his wife who died in 1772 and their three children Jean, Alexander and Peter who all died in infancy. It shows an elaborate carving of a Boatman in his boat with an angel blowing a horn. Also John Fisher who died just 6 months old in 1857. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
