Old Photograph Rodger Street Cellardyke East Neuk Of Fife Scotland
Old photograph of houses and church on Rodger Street in Cellardyke in the East Neuk Fife, Scotland. I was raised in this old Scottish fishing village on the East coast. The surname Rodger has a history dating as far back as the Anglo Saxon tribes of Britain. It was a name for a fame spear or one who was a skilled soldier. The surname Rodger was originally a Germanic personal name derived from the elements hrod, or " renown " combined with geri, or " spear; " thus the name suggested " prowess with a spear ." The surname Rodger may have derived from the Old French word Rogier. After the Norman Conquest, the Old English naming system gradually dissolved. Old English names became less common and were replaced by popular continental European names. The earliest surnames in England were found shortly after the Norman Conquest and are of Norman French rather than native English origins.

Old Photograph Double Decker Passenger Bus Bus Depot Parkhead Glasgow Scotland
Old photograph of a Double Decker Passenger Bus in the Bus Depot in Parkhead, Glasgow, Scotland. Parkhead is a district in the East End of Glasgow. Its name comes from a small weaving hamlet at the meeting place of the Great Eastern Road, now the Gallowgate and Tollcross Road, and Westmuir Street. Duke Street and Springfield Road also meet there, to form a turreted Edwardian five way junction at Parkhead Cross. Glasgow's Eastern Necropolis was laid out in 1847 beside the Gallowgate. Parkhead is best known as the home of Celtic Football Club, Celtic Park, which opened in 1892 after the club moved across the road from their old ground which they had been playing on for their first three years. In January 2016 Parkhead Depot closed and services and drivers were transferred to the new Caledonia Depot on Cathcart Road.
