Old photograph of Scottish Horse Yeomanry soldiers at Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland. The 1st and 2nd Scottish Horse were formed on the creation of the Territorial Force in April 1908 and were independent of any brigade command, being under direct orders of Scottish Command. Based at Dunkeld with the squadrons being based as follows: A Squadron: Blair Atholl, with drill stations at Ballinluig, Pitlochry, Kirkmichael and Kinloch Rannoch. B Squadron: Dunkeld, Murthly, Bankfoot, Dupplin, Perth, Cluny and Aberfeldy. C Squadron: Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie, Alyth and Invergowrie. D Squadron: Dunblane, Crieff, Comrie, Lochearnhead, Muthull, Dunning and Methven.

Tour Scotland video of photographs the Mural of the Battle of Bannockburn by Artist Chris Rutterford at the battlefield site on ancestry visit near Stirling, Scotland. Famous faces on the mural along with Robert the Bruce include Lorraine Kelly and former Scotland rugby star Al Kellock. Robert the Bruce won a famous victory against King Edward II of England at the battle on 23 and 24 June, 1314.

Tour Scotland video of the statue of King Robert the Bruce on ancestry visit to the battlefield at Bannockburn near Stirling, Scotland. The cast bronze equestrian monument, featuring Bruce on his war horse carrying an axe. Robert the Bruce led the battle against the English at Bannockburn in 1314. The battle was a significant Scottish victory in the First War of Scottish Independence, and a landmark in Scottish history.

Old Photograph Crucifixion Cross Churchyard Kilmartin Scotland

Old photograph of the Crucifixion Cross in the churchyard of the Parish Church in Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland. This medieval sculptured cross shaft originally stood in the churchyard at Kilmartin, Argyll, but has now been removed to within the church itself. On the face of the cross is the figure of the crucified Christ. The cross, which has no inscription, belongs to the Loch Awe branch of West Highland style of stone carving. Kilmartin is a small village in Argyll and Bute, best known as the centre of Kilmartin Glen, an area with one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric monuments and historical sites in Scotland. It contains over 350 monuments within a 6 mile radius. Kilmartin Parish Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland. The present church building was designed by architect James Gordon Davis and opened in 1835, though there had been earlier churches on the site. The churchyard has an important collection of early Christian and medieval carved stones, known as the Kilmartin Stones. Some are displayed within the parish church itself, others have been gathered into lapidaria within the graveyard, others still remain lying within it.
