Tour Scotland Autumn video of the River Ericht in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. This Scottish river is in Perthshire, Scotland, and is formed from the confluence of the rivers Blackwater and Ardle. It runs south for around ten miles miles before discharging into the River Isla, and eventually the River Tay. The river cuts through the impressive Craighall Gorge before dissecting the burgh of Blairgowrie and Rattray. The fast running water of the river was once used to power several textile mills.

Old Photograph Unloading A Car Loch Seaforth Isle of Harris Scotland

Old photograph of unloading a car at Loch Seaforth on Island Of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. MV Loch Seaforth is also the name of two Western Isles ships. The 1947 MacBrayne mail boat which linked Stornoway with Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh from 1947 until 1972. On 22 March 1973 she ran aground on Cleit Rock in the Sound of Gunna, between Tiree and Coll, and was subsequently scrapped. The name has been given to the new Calmac car ferry which entered service on the Ullapool to Stornoway crossing in 2015.

Old Photograph Eynhallow Church Orkney Islands Scotland

Old photograph of the church on Eynhallow, a presently uninhabited island in Eynhallow Sound, between Rousay and mainland, Orkney Islands, Scotland. In 1841 the island had a population of 26. It has been uninhabited since the landowner cleared crofters away in 1851. The history of Eynhallow Church is mostly unknown. The church might have been part of a monastery, maybe of the Benedictine order. The church was built in the 12th century. A story is told of Olaf, son of Svein Asleifarson and ward of Kolbein Hruga; who was kidnapped from Eynhallow in 1155, who had been sent to Eynhallow to be educated by the monks.

Old Photograph Fleming Reid Wool Shop Edinburgh Scotland

Old photograph of female staff outside the Fleming and Reid, Wool and Hosiery shop in Edinburgh, Scotland. Fleming Reid and Company had 380 shops throughout the UK, in which their produce was sold, three of which were in Greenock by Glasgow. They were known as the Scottish Wool and Hosiery Stores and one was in West Blackhall Street, one in Rue End Street and one near the mill itself in Drumfrochar Road. In 1959 there were around 1,000 women and 150 men employed by Fleming Reid and Co. but the business finally closed down in 1981. John Fleming of Fleming Reid’s Mill was born in Glasgow in 1806 and died in Edinburgh on 5th February 1898. He spent his early years in Glasgow but later moved to Greenock where he came to join the woollen and worsted manufacturers in Drumfrochar Road. This mill later became known as Fleming Reid’s and was referred to locally as the Merino Mill because wool from the merino sheep was imported from Australia to manufacture many of the woollen goods. James Reid was a conservative M.P. for Greenock from 1900 till 1906. He was educated in Belfast and later became the Chairman of Fleming Reid and Co. Ltd. Worsted spinners and hosiery manufacturers of Greenock. James Reid married Jesse Ryburn Galbreath, daughter of Greenock merchant John Galbreath, in 1872. His wife predeceased him in 1899. James Reid resided at Monfode, Greenock.
