Old Photograph Interior Mar Lodge Scotland

Old photograph of the interior of Mar Lodge near Braemar, Royal Deeside, Scotland. Mar Lodge is a sporting lodge, the principal building on the Mar Lodge Estate. It was built in 1895, replacing an earlier building, by Alexander Duff, 1st Duke of Fife. Alexander William George Duff, 1st Duke of Fife, was born on 10 November 1849, styled Viscount Macduff between 1857 and 1879 and known as The Earl Fife between 1879 and 1889, was a British peer who married Princess Louise, the third child and eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. In December 1911, while sailing to Egypt on the SS Delhi, the Duke and his family were shipwrecked off the coast of Morocco. They spent some time in the water before being rescued and then had to walk four miles to find accommodation. Although they all survived, the Duke fell ill with pleurisy, probably contracted as a result of the shipwreck. He died at Aswan in Egypt on 29 January 1912, and his elder daughter, Princess Alexandra, succeeded to the dukedom of 1900, becoming Duchess of Fife and Countess of Macduff in her own right. His other titles, including the Dukedom created in 1889, all became extinct.

Old Photograph West High Street Peebles Scotland

Old photograph of shops, buildings, horse and cart, and people on West High Street in Peebles in the Borders of Scotland. This Scottish town is located at the confluence of the River Tweed and Eddleston Water, locally called the Cuddy. Initially a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen industry of the Scottish Borders up until the 1960s. The annual local festival is called the Beltane, and involves, as with many Borders festivals, a Common Riding. Old Photograph Cricket Match Duffus Park Cupar Fife Scotland

Old photograph of a Cricket Match in Duffus Park, Cupar, Fife, Scotland. The town is believed to have grown around the site of Cupar Castle, which was the seat of the sheriff and was owned by the earls of Fife. The area became a centre for judiciary as the county of Fife and as a market town catering for both cattle and sheep. The historic town centre is the junction of Bonnygate and the Crossgate. This is where the town's mercat cross, is located with the original shaft being supported by a unicorn. It dates from 1683. To the east is St Catherine Street, home to the burgh chambers and county buildings, both designed by Robert Hutchison. Old Photograph Bathing Pool Buckhaven Fife Scotland

Old photograph of the bathing pool on the coast in Buckhaven, Fife, Scotland. I was born in this village on the East coast of Scotland. The fishing community of Buckhaven is said to have been largely the descendants of Norsemen who settled there in the 9th century. Centuries later, Buckhaven's fisherfolk bought an Episcopal Church in St Andrews in 1869 and transported it stone by stone to Buckhaven, using fishing boats. Old Photograph Minister And Wife Arncroach Fife Scotland

Old photograph of the Minister and his wife outside their house in Arnroach, Fife, Scotland. Arncroach is situated at the foot of Kellie Law, a small hill which is visible from as far as the Firth of Forth, within the parish of Carnbee. Arncroach once had two schools, despite it only being a very small village. One was a boys school and the other was for girls. Children living in the village and surrounding area now have to travel to Pittenweem or Colinsburgh Primarys, and Waid Academy in Anstruther for secondary education.
