Old Photograph High Street Blairgowrie Perthshire Scotland

Old photograph of a hotel, horses and carriages, shops, houses and people on the High Street in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. The town expanded hugely in the 19th century thanks to the employment provided by the many textile mills which were built along the River Ericht. Soft fruit growing, mainly raspberries and strawberries developed in the 20th century and became a very important part of the town's economy. Berry pickers were brought in by bus from Perth and Dundee, and large encampments were set up on farms for pickers from further afield, mainly from the Glasgow area, who made this their annual holiday. They were joined by the travelling community who congregated here for the berry season. The coming of the railway revolutionised the textile and soft fruit trade, but the last train ran in 1960. Old Photograph Nurse Peterhead Scotland

Old photograph of a Nurse in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Peterhead was founded by fishermen and was developed as a planned settlement. In 1593 the construction of Peterhead's first harbour, Port Henry, encouraged the growth of Peterhead as a fishing port and established a base for trade. It was was also a Jacobite supporting town in the Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745. In particular, it was one of the Episcopalian north-eastern ports where reinforcements, plus money and equipment, were periodically landed from France during the Forty Five. Tour Scotland Video Mary Queen of Scots Boat Race Loch Leven Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of the Mary Queen of Scots boat race in Loch Leven on ancestry visit to Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland. Mary Queen of Scots escaped from the Lochleven Castle in a boat rowed by a castle page boy and she was met on the shore by loyal supporters who escorted her to safety. Many royals were guests, as opposed to prisoners, at Lochleven Castle, including King Robert Bruce.

Old Photograph Burnside Coldingham Scotland

Old photograph of cottages in Burnside by Coldingham village near Eyemouth, Scotland. Coldingham is a village and parish in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders. Before the Reformation a vaguely defined jurisdiction known as Coldinghamshire was linked to Coldingham Priory and extended along the east coast of Berwickshire, The priory continued in its religious purposes until 1560, when it was partially destroyed during the Scottish Reformation. However, a portion of it continued its religious activities until 1650, when it was fortified against Oliver Cromwell. After a siege of two days, the main tower in which the besieged defended themselves was so shattered by artillery that they were forced to capitulate. This great tower of the original priory finally collapsed about 1777.
