Old Photograph Cornhill Scotland

Old photograph of houses and cottages in Cornhill, a small village close to Banff, Scotland. Kerr's Pink potato was created by J. Henry of Cornhill, in 1907.

Cornhill is an ancient surname which is also recorded in the spellings Cornall, Cornell, Cornwall, and Cornwell. These are nearly all locational in origin and appear to derive from Cornwall or Cornhill. Cornhill is usually associated with the site of the famous market in London, England where corn was traded for centuries, and as such may be occupational for somebody who worked there.

Old Photographs Main Street Larbert Scotland

Old photograph of shops, tram, houses and people on the main street in Larbert located two and half miles from Falkirk, Scotland. From the late 18th century until the middle of the 20th century heavy industry, such as boilermaking, casting and manufacturing underpinned the economy of Larbert. The Victorian era also saw the opening of the Stirling District Lunatic Asylum at Bellsdyke and Scottish National Institution for Children on the Stenhouse Estate. This made Larbert central in providing care, both locally and nationally. The lands to the south of Larbert, in the area traversed by the Antonine Wall, were strategically important to the Romans. The crossing point on the River Carron at Larbert was an important transportation route for the Romans on the road they constructed from Watling Lodge on the Antonine Wall to Stirling. Old Photograph Railway Station Coalburn Scotland

Old photograph of the railway station in Coalburn, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Coalburn is a small isolated village that lies on the Coal Burn, a tributary of the Douglas Water, 3 miles south of Lesmahagow. Coalburn developed from the 1850s as a railway settlement associated with local coal mines. The station closed to railway passengers in 1965 and the last colliery and mineral traffic on the railway was in 1968.
