Old photograph of cottages in Stuartfield, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The local vicinity is rich with prehistory as well as historical features. Somewhat to the South of Stuartfield are a number of prehistoric monuments including Catto Long Barrow and Silver Cairn. In that same vicinity of the Laeca Burn watershed is the point d'appui of historic battles between invading Danes and indigenous Picts. Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to travel and visit one day.

Old Photograph Yachting Pond Stobswell Dundee Scotland
Old photograph of the model boat Yachting Pond in Stobswell, Dundee, Scotland. The area developed around a well which serviced the nearby farmhouses of Janefield and Maryfield. The name Stob derives from the Scots word for a post indicating to travellers that it was one mile to Dundee. Housing was developed in the area by the city's " jute barons " in the 19th century to accommodate workers in the textile mills in the area and the city. In 1856, the East Dundee Poorhouse was built in the area. After the inception of the National Health Service, the poorhouse was renamed The Rowans and later became a hospital and care-home for the elderly.
