Tour Scotland Video River Orchy Bridge Of Orchy Scottish Highlands
Tour Scotland video of the River Orchy on visit to Bridge Of Orchy, Argyll, Scotland. Located in the Scottish Highlands at the head of Glen Orchy, Bridge Of Orchy is on the A82 road, has a railway station and is on the West Highland Way long distance path. Nearby prominent peaks include the munros Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dòthaidh. The bridge was constructed by Government forces as part of a programme of pacification of the Highland Clans which involved the construction of military roads from the Lowlands into the much wilder upland areas of Scotland. It crosses the River Orchy, one of the finest whitewater rivers in the United Kingdom.

Old Photograph Female Farm Workers Argyll Scotland
Old photograph of female farm workers in Argyll, Scotland. Campbell, a Scottish surname of Gaelic origins, was the most common surname in Argyll. The name itself derives from two Scottish Gaelic words. " Cam " meaning crooked, and " Beul " meaning mouth, together meaning " Crooked mouth " or " wry mouthed ", originally a nickname which over time became used as a surname. Campbell is the third most common surname in Northern Ireland, fourth most common in Jamaica, seventh most common in Scotland, 12th most common in Canada, 18th most common in Australia, 41st most common in the United States and 65th most common in England. The Irish occurrence of the name usually has a different derivation, from the surname Mac Cathmhaoil. Descendants of a famous war leader Cathmhaoil meaning " battle chief " who took the surname, which was often pronounced " Cammel ". This coincided with the pronunciation of the Scottish surname " Campbell ", and was therefore anglicised to the same spelling. From this Irish surname, a number of derivations were derived including MacCawill, McCaul, MacCall, Caulfield, and of course Campbell.
