Old photograph of a shop in Ullapool, Scotland. Ullapool is a village in the Scottish Highlands. On the east shore of Loch Broom, Ullapool was founded in 1788 as a herring fishing port by the British Fisheries Society. It was designed by Thomas Telford. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Ferries sail to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides. The village lies on the A835 road from Inverness. The Ullapool River flows through the village. Old Photograph Town Hall Motherwell Scotland
Old photograph of the town hall in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. This Scottish town is located South East of Glasgow. By the start of the 19th century Motherwell was a small hamlet, a farming community of some 600 people living adjacently to the 16th century laird's manor, Jerviston house. Motherwell's fortunes changed dramatically in the second half of the 19th century. With the coming of the railway in 1848, came industry and money. By 1881 David Colville had opened both an iron and steel works; Motherwell had a new piped water supply; had been granted burgh status and had its population swelled to 13,800 people. Old Photograph Melsetter House Orkney Islands Scotland
Old photograph of Melsetter House overlooking the bay of Longhope, Orkney Islands, Scotland. Melsetter was originally the home of the Moodie family who owned much of this area from the late 1500’s until around 1820; the Moodie burial place is in the Longhope Cemetery. The current house was built, incorporating an earlier property, in the late 1890’s by the famous Arts & Crafts architect William Richard Lethaby; the garden is reputed to be one of the oldest in Orkney.
