Old photograph of Dalmakerran House in Tynron, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. This Scottish mansion house was built around 1840 with late 19th century additions and alterations. The villages lies in a hollow of the Shinnel Water, two miles from Moniaive. At Tynron Doon there can be seen the ditches and ramparts of a Roman Iron Age hill fort.

Old Photograph Liberal Club Alloa Scotland

Old photograph of the Liberal Club on Mar Street in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. John Melvin Senior was the architect of this building. He was born in Alloa in 1805 the second son of John Melvin. He commenced his career as a joiner in the family business but moved to Edinburgh where he went through a course of study and practice of architecture and in 1826 returned to his native town and began business as master joiner and architect, as he frequently combined the two by drawing the plans of a house, and alterations and repairs, and executing the joiner work as well. Troon Harbour played a notable part in the development of the town for many years. It was home to the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company. Troon old railway station was one of the first passenger stations in Scotland as part of the Kilmarnock and Troon Railway. The Grey Lady of Troon. The Grey Lady is a tale or fable that has surrounded Troon for years. She was first sighted by Jason Grant, a local farmer, in 1873.
