Old photograph of a crofter with an Ox and cart on Fair Isle, Scotland. This is an island in northern Scotland, lying around halfway between mainland Shetland and the Orkney Islands. The majority of the sixty islanders live in the crofts on the southern half of the island. Fair Isle has been occupied since the Bronze Age. Fair Isle is known for a traditional style of knitting. Old Photograph Cutting First Sod Talla Waterworks Scotland
Old photograph of cutting the first sod at Talla Waterworks, Tweedsmuir in the Borders, Scotland. Developed under the name of the New Water Supply by the Edinburgh and District Water Trust, the Talla Scheme was adopted on 11 October 1894. It comprised a storage reservoir, a service reservoir and filter, main and branch aqueducts, and a railway from Broughton Station to Talla. The authorising Act received the Royal Assent on 30 May 1895. This reservoir was formed by damming the Talla Water, a tributary of the River Tweed. Old Photograph Shore Road Kilchattan Bay Islay Scotland
Old photograph of cottages and houses on Shore Road in the village of Kilchattan Bay, Isle of Bute, Scotland. This Scottish village is named after the sixth century bishop, Saint Cathan, who established a hermitage here in AD 539. His nephew was Saint Blane and a chapel was established in his honour in the 12th century. St Blane's Chapel still exists as a ruin, one mile to the south of Kilchattan village.
