Old photograph of a cottage in Arniston Glen, Midlothian, Scotland. The Dundas family has owned Arniston since 1571, making it one of the longest-held family estates in Scotland. The family has played a significant role in Scottish and world history, with notable figures like Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, a prominent politician and a favorite of Sir Walter Scott, coming from the Arniston line.

Old Photographs West Pier Leith Scotland

Old photograph of paddle steamers by the West pier in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Leith has been a port since the Middle Ages, with early quays along the Water of Leith. It is one of the oldest ports in the UK, with a recorded mention in 1329. Early development included quay walls along the banks of the Water of Leith, however these were inadequate for the growing shipping trade in the late 18th century. The civil engineer John Rennie was employed to design new docks and extended piers

Tour Scotland video of the Last Post being played by a Scottish soldier bugler on Armistice Day on ancestry visit to Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Last Post is played at public ceremonials commemorating the war dead, particularly on Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth of Nations. In Australia and New Zealand it is also played on Anzac Day.

Old photograph of a herring fishing boat leaving the harbour in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Kirkcaldy's fishing history dates to its early growth as a coastal town, but it was the 16th century salt trade and 19th-century whaling industry that were most significant. Fishing declined by the late 19th century due to harbour limitations and competition.
