The charming town of Portree, set around its natural harbour on the ruggedly beautiful Isle of Skye, boasts a wide range of shops, hotels and restaurants amongst its winding streets. This quiet, tranquil town offers a large variety of cultural attractions too. The Aros Centre, with its programme of concerts, theatre and cinema is well worth visiting and sports enthusiasts will be well catered for by the wealth of sea kayaking, fishing, rock climbing and a good choice of well marked walks across the island. The spectacular rock formations of Trotternish Ridge stretch for miles along the thirty one kilometres of continuous cliffs, showing widely diverse pinnacles and forms. With the imposing Dunvegan castle, and the Talisker Whisky Distillery Visitor Centre, there's something for everyone to see on this very special island.

Riverside Cottage is a luxurious cottage situated in the friendly crofting township of Kensaleyre, near to the town of Portree on the Isle of Skye. Seaview is a lovely, detached cottage set next to the owners' home, 6.5 miles from Portree on the Isle of Skye. Tour Scotland photograph of Paisley Close, Royal Mile, Edinburgh, Scotland. On the 24th of November, 1861, two buildings here collapsed without warning, killing 35 people. While rescuers were clearing away the fallen stone, a voice was heard beneath the rubble. " Heave awa' lads, I'm no deid yet ! " Joseph McIver was rescued and Paisley Close, was built in place of the downed buildings with a memorial inscription above it, the famous cry altered to " Heave awa' chaps, I'm no' dead yet ! "

Tour Scotland Photographs Kyle Of Durness


Tour Scotland photograph of Kyle of Durness, Northern Sutherland, Scotland. A passenger service across the Kyle of Durness operates between May and September. The A838 road runs along the eastern shore of the kyle in its southern section, with an unclassified road leading to Keoldale, the only remaining settlement on the shore. The Cape Wrath passenger ferry operates from Keoldale providing the only access to Cape Wrath from the East.

Tour Scotland Photograph Old Church Durness


Tour Scotland photograph of the ruined Church of Durness located in Balnakeil Bay, Northern Sutherland, Scotland. Founded in 722 by St. Maelrubha, the present building dates from 1619. The Kyle of Durness lies directly west of Balnakeil which gives its name to the 2 mile wide Balnakeil Bay which the Kyle opens into. The peninsula of Faraid Head is directly to the north of Balnakeil. This was the site of a 1950s radar station and remains the range control for Ministry of Defence bombing operations in the Cape Wrath Training Area located to the West.
