Old photograph of Millheugh, Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Larkhall sits on high ground between the River Clyde to the East and the Avon Water to the West, on the edge of the Clyde valley and is a commuter town for Glasgow. Traditionally a mining, weaving and textile area, most of Larkhall's traditional industries have now shut, including the Lanarkshire iron and steel works.

Old Photograph Pilrig Edinburgh Scotland


Old photograph of people, shops and buildings in Pilrig, Edinburgh, Scotland. Pilrig is a suburb of Edinburgh. The name derives from a tower, peel, at the end of a field, rig. Pilrig lies midway between Leith and Edinburgh, west of Leith Walk. It is split by Pilrig Street. Along the north side of Pilrig Street lies Pilrig Park, within which is Pilrig House, the heart of the former estate of the Balfour family.

Photograph of a Royal Piper in Scotland. The position of Queen's Piper is one of the highest accolades available to a piper serving in the Armed Forces. The Piper is a member of the Royal Household whose principal duty is to play every weekday at 9.00 am for about fifteen minutes under The Queen's window when she is in residence at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse or Balmoral Castle.
