Tour Scotland photograph of Kinnaird Doocot, Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. A Doocot is a Scottish building intended to house pigeons or doves. They may be square or circular free standing structures or built into the end of a house or barn. They generally contain pigeonholes for the birds to nest. Pigeons and doves were an important food source historically in Scotland and were kept for their eggs, flesh, and dung.

Photograph Kinnaird Castle Scotland


December 9th photograph of Kinnaird Castle, Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. The Kinnaird family built the original castle on this easily defended site in the Sidlaw Hills, but the estate was sold to Sir Patrick Threipland in 1674. The tower fell into ruin but was restored in the late 19th century.

Photograph Fingask Castle Scotland


December 9th photograph of Fingask Castle, Perthshire, Scotland. Fingask was once a holy place, a convenient and stop off between the abbeys at Falkirk and Scone. In the eighteenth century it was a nest of Jacobites. The Bruce family owned the lands of Rait, including Fingask, from the 15th century. The garden is renowned for its topiary.
