Tour Scotland Photograph Wellmeadow Blairgowrie Perthshire

Tour Scotland photograph of the Wellmeadow in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. The Wellmeadow forms the principal public open space in the town, created in the triangular space between the main routes northward and across the River Ericht. The area was rich in springs and the name Wellmeadow is often cited to originate from St Ninian’s Well, the location of baptisms by the missionary in the fourth century. The Wellmeadow later became a stopping place for drovers en route to market in Crieff and Falkirk, and a mart continued to be held on the Wellmeadow until 1904 when a new mart was built in Rattray. The Wellmeadow was also the site of regular fairs.

Tour Scotland Photograph Thistles Valley Of Strathmore

Tour Scotland photograph of thistles in the valley Of Strathmore, Perthshire, Scotland.

Valley of Strathmore Song

By the clear and the winding stream
In the valley of Strathmore
Where my love and I have been
Where we'll wander never more

But if time was a thing man could buy
All the money that I have in store
I would give for one day by her side
In the valley of Strathmore

From the glen of the golden and the green
I left for a land far away
Where sadness has never been seen
Aye, and joy only costs a day's pay

In Strathmore there's a long working day
For a man with his hands on the plow
But it's work I'd be happy to do
If at night I were lying with you

As I take a long draft from my glass
Oh, I'm drinking alone here again
And I try not to think of my lass
For the old days will ne'er come again

Photograph Strathmore Scotland

Photograph of Strathmore, Perthshire, Scotland. A strath is a large Scottish valley, typically a river valley that is wide and shallow, as opposed to a Scottish glen which is typically narrower and deep. Strathmore in east central Scotland runs from northeast to southwest between the Grampian mountains and the Sidlaws. It is approximately fifty miles long and ten miles wide. Strathmore was formed by glacial processes in earlier ice ages. It is fertile and has some of Scotland's best arable farmland, producing soft fruits and cereals. This is also an old capital of Scotland. And is located near the centre of Scotland. The first recorded history of this region dates to Roman times when the Romans established a series of marching camps generally extending in a south to north direction to support the invasion and exploration northward. Other early examples of history include Pictish stones found in Strathmore such as the Eassie Stone.
