Tour Scotland December photograph of Forter Castle, Scotland. Historic 16th Scottish century castle. Originally built in 1560 by the Ogilvy family and destroyed by the Duke of Argyll in 1640. Set amidst the beautiful scenery of Glen Isla.

Tour Scotland Photograph Forter Castle Glenisla


Tour Scotland photograph of Forter Castle, Glenisla, Angus, Scotland. The castle comprises four storeys and a garret and was built on the L-plan. It was a former stronghold of the Ogilvies that was stormed along with Airlie Castle by the Campbells of Inverewe in 1640 on the instructions of Archibald Campbell, the 8th Earl of Argyll. Briefly the property of the MacThomas family, the castle eventually fell into a ruinous state. However, it was restored around 1990.
