Tour Scotland video of the Lennox Family singing Bonnie Banks of Airdrie O at the Folk Festival in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. The Lennox Family from Portsoy singing in the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline.

Once three sisters went a walk,
Once three sisters went a walk,
Once three sisters went a walk,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

They met a robber on the way,
They met a robber on the way,
They met a robber on the way,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

He took the first one by the hand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

Will you be a robber's wife,
Or will you die by my penknife?
Will you be a robber's wife?
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

I'll not be a robber's wife,
I'd rather die by your penknife,
I'll not be a robber's wife,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

Then he took out his penknife,
Then he ended her sweet life,
Then he ended her sweet life,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

He took the second one by the hand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

Will you be a robber's wife,
Or will you die by my penknife?
Will you be a robber's wife?
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

I'll not be a robber's wife,
I'd rather die by your penknife,
I'll not be a robber's wife,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

Then he took out his penknife,
Then he ended her sweet life,
Then he ended her sweet life,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

He took the third one by the hand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
He birled her round till she could not stand,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

Will you be a robber's wife,
Or will you die by my penknife?
Will you be a robber's wife?
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

I'll not be a robber's wife,
I'd rather die by your penknife,
I'll not be a robber's wife,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

I wish my two brothers were here,
I wish my two brothers were here,
I wish my two brothers were here,
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

What are your two brothers like,
What are your two brothers like,
What are your two brothers like?
Down by the bonnie banks of Airdrie, O

English Translation:

Stronger wind comes from the wester
Curse the weather, curse the weather
Stronger wind comes from the wester
Curses from all us sailors.

Stow the shrouds, the yards and sails
The dear old ship she'll ride the gales
The dear old ship she'll ride the gales
So give her the best you can, boys.

Bless the ship, almighty father
Curse the weather, curse the weather
Bless the ship, almighty father
Curses from all us sailors.

Tour Scotland Video Old Scotia Clydebuilt Folk Festival Dunfermline Fife

Tour Scotland video of Clydebuilt singing Old Scotia at the Folk Festival in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Two members of the folk band Clydebuilt from Glasgow singing at a Saturday afternoon Open Stage Session in the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline. This song is about the Isle of Mull and Calgary Bay. Just up the hill from the bay the deserted village of Inivea remains as roofless stone ruins, an atmospheric relic of the Highland clearances. David Tennant, a former Doctor Who, traced his family back to here in the BBC programme, Who do you think you are?
