Scotsman Walking Wearing Kilt On Glengarrisdale Beach On Summer History Visit To Jura Scotland

Tour Scotland very short 4K Summer travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking on Glengarrisdale Bay Beach on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the North West coast of Island of Jura, Inner Hebrides, Britain, United Kingdom. The most famous, and darkest, historical event associated with Glengarrisdale occurred in 1647. At the time, the area was a stronghold of the Maclaines of Lochbuie a branch of Clan Maclean. They maintained a small stone fortification here known as An Aros Castle. Nurturing a long-standing territorial feud, the Campbells of Craignish sailed across the Sound of Jura from the mainland after catching word that the Maclaine stronghold was weakly garrisoned. The Campbells launched a surprise attack, defeating the Maclaines and slaying the chief along with many of his followers. Though completely uninhabited today, Glengarrisdale Bay once supported a vibrant, self contained farming community. As part of the wider pattern of West Highland depopulation, the community gradually dwindled. The settlement eventually became the last working croft on the isolated west coast of Jura. The final permanent resident, a woman named Kate Johnson, left the glen in the late 194Os.
