In 1798, General Thomas Geils, who also held nearby properties like Geilston House, purchased the grounds. Under his direction, the landscape was extensively planned. In 1806, the primary architectural transformation occurred, encasing the original 17th century structure within the grander mansion seen today. The lands originally belonged to the Noble family, who owned and managed the property during the 18th century before financial changes prompted a sale.
