Lochan Domhain is situated in a highly rugged, isolated mountain landscape near the peaks of Beinn na h-Eaglaise and Meall Dearg moutains. . The name translates directly from Scottish Gaelic as the " deep loch " or " deep little lake" , stemming from domhain, deep and lochan. This ancient trail here is a recognized heritage path used historically by highlanders to move livestock across the difficult terrain. The route runs north from Strathcarron past Coire Fionnaraich, climbing up to the mountain pass at Bealach na Lice, before steering northwest past Loch an Eoin and Loch Domhain down into Annat at the head of Loch Torridon.
