Tour Scotland very short 4K Summer travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking by a castle on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the South West, East of Dumfries, Britain, United Kingdom. The site initially belonged to the de Torthorwald family, who established an early earthwork and timber fortification. In 1306, during the Wars of Scottish Independence, King Robert the Bruce confiscated the lands because descendants of the family sided with the English. The estate passed to the Kirkpatrick family in 1321. Construction on the enduring stone tower was initiated by the Kirkpatricks and heavily expanded by the Carlyle family after William de Carleil married the Kirkpatrick heiress in 1418. In 1544, the castle was violently attacked and sacked by Michael, Lord Carlyle, during an aggressive inheritance dispute against his sister-in-law, Jonet Scrimgeour. The stronghold passed by marriage to the Douglases of Parkhead in 1609. It remained occupied until roughly 1715. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
