Tour Scotland short 4K Spring travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a Kilt and Sporran and walking by daffodils in a garden at Manderston House on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the Borders, Britain, United Kingdom. The estate originally belonged to the powerful Hume family. A basic stone peel or tower house stood on the lands in 1750. The lands passed briefly to the Swintons of Kimmerghame, ancestors of actress Tilda Swinton. Around 1790, a substantial classical Georgian dwelling house was built for Dalhousie Watherston, which forms the core of the current layout. In 1893, William's son, Sir James Miller, married the Hon. Eveline Curzon, daughter of Lord Scarsdale. Eager to match the grand standards of her childhood home, the famous Robert Adam masterpiece, Kedleston Hall. Sir James decided to completely rebuild Manderston. Sir James commissioned Scottish architect John Kinross to fully remodel the house between 1901 and 1905. When Kinross asked what the spending limit was, Sir James famously replied, "It simply doesn't matter". Over 400 craftsmen were employed, and final costs reached an astronomical £221,000. The house was completed in late 1905, celebrated with a glittering ball on 7 November. Tragically, Sir James caught a chill while hunting and died of pneumonia just five months later, leaving no children. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome. The date for astronomical Spring is 20th March, ending on 21st June
