Old Footage Of The Harbour In Grangemouth Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K travel video, with Scottish music, of old footage of the harbour in Grangemouth, Britain, United Kingdom. In the 1760s, Sir Lawrence Dundas, who owned land in the area, successfully lobbied the Forth and Clyde Canal Company to establish the canal's eastern terminus where the Grange Burn met the River Carron, close to its junction with the River Forth. Dundas agreed to build a new harbour at this location, facilitating the trans shipment of goods between canal vessels and sea going ships. This led to the rapid emergence of Grangemouth as a significant port, surpassing nearby Bo'ness. Grangemouth became a hub for trade, handling imports like grain, flax, hemp, iron, and timber from Europe and exports of Scottish coal and manufactured goods. Even American tobacco was transported and re-exported through the canal and port. Timber importing and processing became a cornerstone of Grangemouth's economy and prosperity, earning the town the nickname Timber Town.
