Tour Scotland short 4K travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking by the coast of sparsely populated Papa Stour Island on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Shetland Islands, Britain, United Kingdom. Papa Stour, a small island off the west coast of Shetland, has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Its name, derived from Old Norse " Papey Stóra, " means " big island of the priests, " hinting at an early settlement by Celtic missionary priests. The island later became important to the Norse, serving as a strategic base and royal farm. Despite being pledged to Scotland in 1469, Norwegian lords maintained their estates on Papa Stour well into the 17th century. Despite Shetland's pledge to Scotland, Norwegian lords retained their estates on Papa Stour until the 17th century. By the 18th century, the island was divided between two mainland lairds. Evidence suggests human settlement on Papa Stour dates back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.
