Tour Scotland short 4K travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking by the coast of uninhabited Balta Island on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Shetland Islands, Britain, United Kingdom. The name Balta comes from the Old Norse word Baltey. Balta is located off the east coast of Unst, which is one of the larger islands in Shetland. It sits near a place called Balta Sound. In May 1820, a man named John MacCulloch visited Balta. He was there to do a special survey called the Trigonometrical Survey for the Ordnance Survey. This survey helps to make very accurate maps. Balta was the most northern point he measured for this project. Historic remains on the island include the ruins of a broch and of a Norse chapel dedicated to Saint Sunniva. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day
