Old Footage Of Caledonian Canal Fort Augustus Highlands Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K travel video, with Scottish music, of old video footage of the Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus, Highlands, Britain, United Kingdom. The Caledonian Canal connecting Fort William to Inverness passes through Fort Augustus in a dramatic series of locks stepping down to Loch Ness. The canal runs some 60 miles from north east to south west. Only one third of the entire length is man made, the rest being formed by Loch Dochfour, Loch Ness, Loch Oich, and Loch Lochy. These lochs are located in the Great Glen, on a geological fault in the Earth's crust. . The Gaelic name for the modern village is Cille Chuimein, and until the early 18th century the settlement was called Kiliwhimin. It was renamed Fort Augustus after the Jacobite Rising of 1715. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
