Interior Of Cathedral Bell Tower With Music On History Visit To Dunkeld Highland Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K travel video clip, with Scottish music, of the interior of the Bell Tower with its vaulted celing on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to the cathedral in Dunkeld, Highland Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. In 849, relics of St Columba were removed from Iona to protect them from Viking raids. They were brought to Dunkeld by King Kenneth MacAlpin, who appointed a bishop at Dunkeld. Columba became the patron saint of Dunkeld and its monastery. The see was revived in the early 1100s, when Cormac became Bishop of Dunkeld. The cathedral developed over about 250 years, and the earliest surviving part is the choir of the late 1200s. It later became a parish church. The nave was begun in 1406, and lost its roof shortly after the Protestant Reformation of 1560. In the 17th century, the Bishopric of Dunkeld became an appendage of the Crown and subsequently descended to the Earls of Fife. In 1689 the Battle of Dunkeld was fought around the cathedral between the Jacobite Highland clans loyal to James II and VII deposed in the Glorious Revolution the previous year, and a government force supporting William III and II, with the latter winning the day. Dunkeld Cathedral is still used as the town's Church of Scotland parish church, with services every Sunday.
