It Commemorats the 7 Years' War from 1756 to 1763, Napoleonic Wars from 1803 to 1814, Waterloo Campaign in 1815, Indian Mutiny from 1857 to 1858, Crimean War from 1853 to 1856, 19th Century Wars from 1800 to 1899and 18th Century Wars from 1700 to 1799. This memorial was a sculpture by Sir John Robert Steell RSA born 1804, died 1891. He was born in Aberdeen but his family moved to Edinburgh around one year after his birth. He is best known for a number of sculptures displayed in Edinburgh. General George Wade was authorised by King George I to form six " watch " companies to patrol the Highlands of Scotland, three from Clan Campbell, one from Clan Fraser of Lovat, one from Clan Munro and one from Clan Grant. These were to be " employed in disarming the Highlanders, preventing depredations, bringing criminals to justice, and hindering rebels and attainted persons from inhabiting that part of the kingdom.
