Muckairn Church With Music On History Visit To Taynuilt Argyll Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Autumn travel video, with Scottish music, of the exterior and interior of Muckairn Parish Church and graveyard on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Taynuilt in Argyll, Britain, United Kingdom. This Scottish church was built in 1829, it stands adjacent to the ruins of Killespickerill, from 1228, once the seat of the Bishop of Argyll. It was built as part of the program of Parliamentary Churches across the Highlands and Islands paid for from public funds, and built to a common design produced by Thomas Telford. The cost of the church itself was paid by General Campbell of Lochnell. The graveyard is home to a number of early gravestones, though most are very hard to read. Although the story of Muckairn in the centuries prior to 1829 is unclear, it is known that today's church is either the third or fourth to have stood on or near the same location. Ardchattan and Muckairn is a civil parish within Argyll and Bute in Scotland. It lies north of Oban, bordering Loch Etive and includes Glen Ure, Glen Creran, Barcaldine, Benderloch, Connel, Bonawe and Glen Etive. Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw of the folk group Capercaillie are from Taynuilt. Dr Alexander Carmichael, the author of Carmina Gadelica, lived in Taynuilt in the early 1900s. +Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
