Tour Scotland short 4K travel video clip, with Scottish music, of the Haylie Chambered Tomb on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit near Largs, Ayrshire, Britain, United Kingdom. These neolithic tombs were discovered by James Wilson of Haylie in 1772. The chambered tomb was once covered over by stones, or man made cairns which are conical stone heapings. The original cairn was dismantled and removed for the building of dykes upon a local Douglas estate. Upon excavation, the remains of five bodies were found inside the tomb, with the structure itself dated back to about 3000 BC. Historically important, the tomb marks the graves of a people known as the Beakers. The Neolithic period, or New Stone Age, began approximately 6,100 years ago and ended around 4,500 years ago, 4,100 BC to 2,500 BC, which begins with the earliest evidence of a farming way of life and ends when copper tools are first used. During this time, farmers arrived from what is now mainland Europe, and since people were now staying in one place for longer periods of time, rather than having to roam around for food, they also started building permanent structures such as stone dwellings and tombs. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
