Reaper Herring Drifter Leaving Harbour On History Visit To Anstruther East Neuk Of Fife Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Spring travel video of the Reaper leaving the Inner harbour on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Anstruther, East Neuk of Fife, Britain, United Kingdom. I was raised in Cellardyke and went to school in Waid Academy in Anstruther. The Reaper is a restored historic Fifie herring drifter boat. First registered at Fraserburgh in 1902, she operated initially as a sailing lugger whose nets would be set at dusk and hauled in at dawn. She later spent many years in Shetland fishing for herring in the summer and she was fitted with an engine between the Wars. During World War II she was requisitioned by the Admiralty and served in the south east of England, often being used as a barrage balloon mooring. The fishing village of Anstruther is now a tourist destination situated on the Fife Coastal Walking Path, which passes through Anstruther, it is a Scottish long distance walking footpath that runs from Kincardine to Newburgh. It runs for 117 miles along the coastline of Fife and passes through many seaside towns and villages including Anstruther, Cellardyke, Crail, Elie, Lower Largo and Pittenweem. The path would take around one week to walk completely from end to end. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
