The station was built by the Kyle of Lochalsh Extension Highland Railway between Stromeferry and Kyle of Lochalsh, opening on 2 November 1897. The station building was built by the Highland Railway, and designed by engineer Murdoch Paterson. The Kyle of Lochalsh line is a primarily single-track railway line in the Scottish Highlands, from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh. Many of the passengers are tourists, but there are also locals visiting Inverness for shopping, and commuters.
