New Year's Day Road Trip Drive To Visit Pitlochry Highland Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland travel video of a New Year's Day on Friday, 1 January, 2021, road trip drive, with Scottish music, through Perth, then North on the A9 road to visit Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. Pitlochry is normally very busy during Christmas and over the New Year celebrations, but is now very quiet due to the coronavirus pandemic. The town of Pitlochry, Baile Chloichridh or Baile Chloichrigh in Gaelic, is largely a Victorian town, which developed into a tourist resort due to Queen Victoria visiting the area in 1842, and the arrival of the railway in 1863. It remains a popular tourist resort today. The A9 is a major road running from central Scotland to Scrabster Harbour, Thurso in the far north, via Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Perth and Inverness. At 273 miles, it is the longest road in Scotland and the fifth longest A road in the United Kingdom. Historically it was the main road between Edinburgh and John o' Groats, and has been called the spine of Scotland. Drive with great care and patience on this road, when it is busy, as it regularly appears in lists of Scotland's most dangerous roads, though it is now being dualled All photographs are copyright of Sandy Stevenson, Tour Scotland, and may not be used without permission.
