Wood Pigeon Drinking On Visit To Cottage Garden Scone By Perth Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland Summer 4K travel video of a Wood Pigeon drinking water on a visit to my cottage garden in Scone by Perth Perthshire. Most birds drink water by filling their bill with the liquid, often from morning dew on leaves, then tilting their head back, using gravity to send the liquid into their digestive tract. Pigeons and doves are among the few birds that can suck water while their head is down. They don't need to look skyward to swallow. The wood pigeon, Columba palumbus, is the largest member of the dove and pigeon family in Great Britain, measuring about 15 inches long on average. Found in large flocks outside of breeding season, the wood pigeon eats a largely vegetable diet, foraged in open fields, gardens, lawns, including fruits, berries and grains.
