Thomas Hutcheson Memorial Cathedral Glasgow Scotland
Tour Scotland 4K travel video of the Thomas Hutcheson, born 1590, died 1641, memorial on ancestry, history visit to the Cathedral in Glasgow. This Scottish memorial in the Scots Renaissance style is to one of the co founders of Hutchesons' Hospital. It was erected beside the south west door of the Cathedral in 1841 and restored in 1902. Thomas along with his brother George, bequeathed money to found a hospital for the elderly and a school for poor boys. The school is still operating today, although fee paying and co-educational, as Hutchesons’ Grammar School. The original Hutchesons’ Hospital was replaced between 1802 and 1805.
The surname Hutcheson was first found in Argyllshire, Gaelic erra Ghaidheal, the region of western Scotland corresponding roughly with the ancient Kingdom of Dál Riata, in the Strathclyde region of Scotland, now part of the Council Area of Argyll and Bute. spelling variations of Hutcheson have been written as Hutcheson, Hutchison, Huchison, MacCutcheon, MacHutcheon, MacCutchin, MacCutchan, MacCutchen, MacCutchon and many more.
James Hutcheson, born 1838, aged 25, was a British labourer who travelled from Queenstown, Ireland aboard the ship Golden Empire arriving in Brisbane, Australia in July 1863; Margaret Hutcheson, born 1842, aged 21, was a British domestic servant who travelled from London aboard the ship Sebastopol arriving in Lyttelton, Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand on 21st May 1863; Lacie Hutcheson, landed in Virginia, America, in 1712; Margaret Hutcheson, arrived in Virginia, America, in 1740; Jane Hutcheson, landed in New York, America, in 1817; Robert Hutcheson, arrived in Washington County, Pennsylvania, America, in 1840.
