Spring Tron And Jougs Meikleour Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland Spring 4k travel video of the Tron and Jougs on visit to Meikleour, Perthshire. The tron is a rusticated obelisk with a hole near its pointed top, surmounted by a tall spike with a weather vane. The jougs are attached to its South face. The jougs was an instrument of punishment formerly used in Scotland. It was an iron collar fastened by a short chain to a wall, often of the parish church, or to a tree or to a mercat cross. The collar was placed round the offender's neck and fastened by a padlock. Time spent in the jougs was intended to shame an offender publicly. Jougs were used for ecclesiastical as well as civil offences. Examples could still be seen in Scotland at the beginning of the 20th century. It may have lent its name to the modern " jug ", slang for prison.
