Old Kirk And Graveyard Lethendy Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland Spring 4K travel video of the old kirk and graveyard in Kirkton of Lethendy on visit to the Parish of Kinloch, Perthshire. This Scottish church is a narrow rectangle of uncertain date, south wall rebuilt in 1847. Some 17th and 18th century gravestones stones in the burial ground. Lethendy old parish church now unroofed is said to date from 1574 but, whilst some of the building might be of this period, it appears to have been largely rebuilt about 1847 by architect John Ramsay of Kettins. At the Reformation the church was the prebend of the chancellor of Dunkeld. It is reasonable to assume that this was also the case from at least 1274. In 1806 the parish was united with Kinloch. John Ramsay practised from Kettins near Coupar Angus in the 1840s and 1850s. According to a memorandum by David Reid in response to a query from Peter Carmichael formerly at Arthurstone House, he lost his money in a west coast herring fishery copartnery and had to be put into an asylum. Kinloch is a small parish, which is located in the Perth and Kinross Council Area, some 3 miles West of Blairgowrie and 14 miles South East of Pitlochry. The parish has an area of 6.5 square miles. Kinloch has Blairgowrie, Clunie and Lethendy as its neighbouring parishes.
