Old Photograph Of The Tower Of Ess Scotland

Old photograph of the Tower of Ess at the entrance to Glen Tanar, next to the Bridge o' Ess, 1¼ miles South West of Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This square tower was built in the later 19th Century. and was probably the work of George Truefitt, the favoured architect of Sir William Cunliffe Brooks, who was the Laird of the Glen Tanar Estate. It used two contrasting colours of stone; the lower level is of dark grey granite, while the upper levels are of pink granite. The parapet is corbelled out, with a peculiar round turret, featuring a bell shaped roof, to the southeast corner.
