Old Photograph Mhorrich Mor Camp Tain Scotland

Old photograph of Mhorrich Mor Camp on a low sandy plain to the north east of Tain, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. The area was used for army training camps and rifle practice until World War I and at that time the sight of various regiments marching between the camp and Tain railway station was a regular feature. The RAF later used the area for bombing exercises. The Lovat Scouts were formed in 1900 by the 16th Lord Lovat, Simon Fraser, and first saw service in the Second Boer War. The regiment was then disbanded but reformed in 1903 and was active in both World Wars. In 1905, the Lovat Scouts assembled at a two week training camp on Mhorrich Mhor near Tain.
