Old Photograph Smiddy Brae Ochiltree Scotland


Old photograph of cottages, houses and people on Smiddy Brae in Ochiltree in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Brae is a Scottish word for a steep bank or hillside. A Smiddy is a Scots word for the workshop of a blacksmith. The 1901 novel, The House with the Green Shutters, was written by George Douglas Brown, who was born in Ochiltree. Johnny Cymbal, the famous American based singer, songwriter and record producer was born in Ochiltree on the 3rd of February 1945. He is best remembered for his 1963 signature hit Mr. Bass Man. Also from the village was a close associate of King James I of Scotland, Michael Ochiltree.
