Old Photograph General Wade Road Grantown On Spey Scotland

Old photograph of the military road built by General Wade near Grantown-on-Spey, Scotland. General Wade's military roads were built under the supervision of General George Wade, Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces, in order to provide the military with fast routes of travel through the Highlands. General Wade had been granted the authority by King George I to disarm the Highland clans and thus remove their military autonomy. The first military road was constructed in the summer of 1725, and the road in Grantown was finished in 1733.
