Old Photograph General Wade's High Bridge Spean Bridge Scotland

Old photograph of General Wade's High Bridge over the River Spean by Spean Bridge, Scotland. The Scottish village of Spean Bridge is in the Great Glen, and takes its name from the Highbridge over the River Spean on General Wade's Highlands military road between Fort William and Fort Augustus. The Highbridge Skirmish on 16 August 1745 was the first engagement of the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Major Macdonald of Tirnadrish ambushed and routed two companies of the Royal Scots under Captain Scott. Tirnadrish spared Scott's life, but was later captured at the Battle of Falkirk and beheaded in Carlisle, England. Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to travel and visit one day.
